Community Services Unit
The Barrie Police Community Services Unit meets the needs of a rapidly growing population. Young and old enjoy the community's amenities from spring through winter activities. The unit is presently staffed by one Sergeant and thirteen Constables. Education, crime prevention, safety issues and volunteer programs provide the community with pertinent information making Barrie a safe place to live and raise families.
Our service also provides speakers on various police related topics such as home and commercial security, criminal offences such as frauds and drugs and many other similar topics.
Should you have any further questions regarding the Community Services Unit contact Staff Sergeant Gene Hettinga (705) 725-7025 Ext. 2968 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Blue - Barrie Police Mascot
The Barrie Police Service welcomed the arrival of their first mascot in the spring of 2012. Thanks to help from the community, the name, Blue, was given to the German Shepherd Mascot. Blue enjoys attending various community service events throughout the year and is loved by young and old.
The City of Barrie presently has 43 Elementary Schools and 10 Secondary Schools. Educational awareness and safety programs are taught by officers in elementary, high school, college and adult learning centres. Public, separate and private school students are given accurate and up to date information providing the basis for informed personal choices. The schools unit operates such programs as V.I.P. (Values, Influences and Peers).
The Schools Unit also employs school liaison officers who attend at Elementary and Secondary Schools, to provide law enforcement when required, address school and/or student issues, participate as a resource person in classroom discussions, assist with the Safe Schools Act and provide guidance and direction to students, parents and teachers. These Officers provide the opportunity for students to form a better understanding of the role of a police officer in the community and the individual citizen's responsibility to the community, the law and enforcement of the law.
