After a lengthy investigation, investigators from the Barrie Police Service Sexual Assault Unit have arrested and charged a 28 year old man in relation to two sexual assaults that occurred in the city of Barrie earlier this year.

On December 29th, 2012 a male was sexually assaulted in the early morning hours while walking alone in or around Barrie’s downtown core.

On January 19th, 2013 another male was sexually assaulted in the early morning hours while walking alone in or around the downtown core.

The accused’ identity was brought to the attention of the Sexual Assault Unit when he was arrested and charged with committing an Indecent Act on the 28th of June 2013.

As a result of information gathered during the June incident and the continued investigation, the accused was additionally charged with two counts of Sexual Assault and two counts of Robbery in relation to the earlier assaults.

The accused was held in custody and was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on August 7th, 2013.

The accused is described as a 28 year old black male, approximately 6”3, medium build, well-groomed short curly black hair, with a round face and wearing dark clothing.  The male may have been encountered walking in or around the downtown area of Barrie.

Investigators are encouraging any other victims who may have had involvement with this male to contact the Barrie Police Service or Crimestoppers.

Barrie Police are making an appeal to the public in regards to the sexual assault that occurred on early Saturday morning January 19th, 2013 at about 4:47 am.  There is a witness to this sexual assault and we are urging that this person come forward.

The sexual assault happened in the area of Berczy Park located at Peel and Sophia Street in Barrie.  The Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Unit is currently investigating this case.

Investigators are attempting to get a composite sketch of the suspect.  If successful the composite will be released to the public.

The sexual assault from early Saturday morning is believed to be linked to a similar sexual assault back in late December.  Both victims have provided suspect details that are closely matched.
From the investigation thus far investigators believe that they are potentially dealing with the same suspect who is assaulting victims walking alone in the early hours of the morning.

Members of the public are asked to take precaution, be aware of their surroundings and please report any information that they may have on these incidents.

Again the suspect is described as:

Male black, light-skinned, approximately 25-35 years old, 6’2-6-3, thin athletic build, well groomed hair, dark in color, round face and wearing dark clothing.

The Barrie Police Service Criminal Investigation Division is currently investigating a sexual assault that occurred in or near Berczy Park during the overnight hours of Friday January 18th.

Between the hours of 3am to 4am, a male victim was approached by an unknown male suspect in the vicinity of Mulcaster Street at Penetang Street and subsequently assaulted.

Persons who may have witnessed this incident or suspicious activity in the area during that time are encouraged to contact the Barrie Police Service. 

The suspect in this occurrence is described as a light-skinned black male,  25-35yrs of age, 6”2-6”3, thin but athletic build, with a round face, and  short, well-groomed, dark colored “flat-top” styled hair.

A similar occurrence occurred in December 2012 and police believe that the same suspect was involved. 

It is believed that the suspect is targeting males under the influence of alcohol walking alone after bar close in and around the downtown area.
