On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., officers from the downtown Community Response Unit (CRU) had been patrolling on foot, and happen to be in the right place at the right time.

A suspect entered the Bank of Montreal (BMO), located at the corner of Collier and Mulcaster Street, in the City of Barrie. The man was armed with a knife and demanded money from the teller. The suspect did not obtain any money and quickly fled the bank as police were walking in. The teller quickly advised police of the incident and a foot chase pursued.

The suspect ran northbound on Mulcaster Street and quickly slipped into the construction zone on the north side of the Collier Centre building. Within a short period of time Police and K9 located the suspect in the stairwell of the underground parking lot.

The 32-year-old male of no fixed address has been charged with; Robbery, Weapons Dangerous, Breach of Probation x4 and one count of Breach of Recognizance. The male will appear in bail court Thursday morning.

Police remind business owners of the importance of maintaining and updating video surveillance equipment. Quality images help to identify suspects, can aid in arrests and have a tremendous impact during court proceedings.
