The Barrie Police are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a suspect captured on video surveillance following a theft at Zehrs located at 11 Bryne Drive, in the City of Barrie, on Friday, April 28, 2017, at approximately 2:40 p.m.

The male had been observed selecting numerous items from the meat department and placing them into the basket he had been carrying. Minutes later the suspect nonchalantly walked out of the store without paying for the items. He was stopped by loss prevention, at which point he quickly dropped the basket of groceries and fled the area in a blue hatchback vehicle; bearing a licence plate similar to “BMRV 202”. The stolen items estimated at $200.00, were recovered by loss prevention.

 The investigation is ongoing.

The suspect is described as;

  • Male, white
  • Heavy build, 5’8”
  • Brown hair and unkempt looking.
  • Wearing a dark t-shirt, jeans and wearing a white watch on left wrist.

The surveillance video is of poor quality and does not provide a clear picture of the suspect, although police are requesting assistance in identifying the male through clothing or other descriptive features. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Hemington of the Barrie Police Service at 705-725-7025, ext.2763, khemington@barriepolice.ca or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online at www.tipsubmit.com
