On Sunday, July 23rd, 2017 at 5:35pm Police attended a motor vehicle collision between two vehicles by the corner of Essa Road and Mapleton Avenue, in the City of Barrie.  Something felt a little suspicious when speaking to the parties involved and the officer began to dig a little further into the details of the incident.  The investigation determined the one party at fault was Prohibited Drive for life for several convictions for Impaired Driving and Drive While Disqualified. Due to his driving status, the male called his 77-year-old mother to attend and tell police she was driving the vehicle when the incident occurred. He also approached the other driver and witness attempting to dissuade them from reporting him as the driver. Once the truth was exposed the male was arrested and transported to the Barrie Police Service for a Bail Hearing on Monday morning.

The 48-year-old Innisfil man was charged with:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Obstruct Justice
  • Drive While Disqualified
  • Breach of Probation
  • Breach of Recognizance
  • Careless Driving (Highway Traffic Act charge)
