Committee Highlights

Barrie Police Service members sit on many internal and external committees that collaborate to create positive change in our community. Below are highlights of some of the internal committees at the Barrie Police Service.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee

The EDI Committee serves as a resource for Barrie Police Service members in matters of policy, communications, training, outreach, and engagement strategies. This is a volunteer-led committee that continually encourages thoughtful conversation and is guided by the vision to build an authentically inclusive organization. The year 2022 included continued collaboration with community partners to conduct multiple professional development opportunities and build on opportunities to foster an EDI informed organizational culture.

Systemic Review Working Group

As a result of the Systemic Review of Organizational Culture and Systems Report published in November of 2021, a Systemic Review Working Group was created with a cross representation of members throughout the Service. The working group identifies the culture the Barrie Police Service wants to create in the future and explores what needs to change in order to create the ideal working environment. This group meets monthly and continues to find ways to improve the working culture of the Barrie Police Service while supporting the implementation of the recommendations made in the Systemic Review Report.

Corporate Image Committee

The Corporate Image Committee is a group of dedicated Barrie Police Service members who support local charities and events in the community, and champion these events within the Service. In 2022, the committee raised over $4,747 for local charities as well as organized multiple donation drives and food bank initiatives.
