The Unit is responsible for the recruitment, selection, training and on-going health and wellness of all the Barrie Police Service membership. 2022 was the first year since 2013 that the Service hired a group of experienced sworn officers and also hired the largest class of cadets in the history of the Service.

Training Unit & Recruitment

Training is one of the most important aspects of policing and is a fundamental unit of the Barrie Police Service. With sworn members required to complete 40 hours of training a year, this Unit is relied upon to make sure our members are prepared both mentally and physically for any call they may encounter. In 2022, they continued to go well beyond the minimum requirements and created a specialized Coaches’ Course to help provide mentorship for the Barrie Police Service’s newest recruits. Through local partnerships the Unit also offered Racial Trauma Training which will be part of an on-going research project to study and ensure its
effectiveness.

The Barrie Police Service Recruitment Unit continues to explore new ways to attract the most talented candidates to our Service. This year the Unit put on the first Women in Policing Symposium to bring awareness to potential candidates on what a career in policing can offer. The Unit also participated in the Law Enforcement Job Fair hosted by the Toronto Police Service in the Fall of 2022.
