On Monday, June 26, 2023, at 12:08 p.m., officers from the Barrie Police Service responded to what appeared to be a verbal argument between two males at a parkade located at 33 Collier Street.

The argument reportedly intensified with one of the males pulling a small axe out of a bag and threatening the other male. The argument concluded and both males left the area on foot.

As police descended upon the downtown, they were equipped with detailed descriptions of both of the involved males and were able to locate both of them within minutes of their arrival.

The male who was armed with the axe was taken into custody without incident near the Five Points and was the other male was located near Clapperton and Collier Streets where he provided police with details of what had just taken place at the parkade.

As a result of the investigation that followed, a 64-year-old male from Alliston was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where he was charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Fail to Comply with a Probation Order. He was later released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on August 9, 2023.
