On Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 9:52 a.m. a Barrie Police officer observed a motor vehicle that had expired licence plates on Grove Street East and St. Vincent Street. Police stopped the motor vehicle as it turned onto St. Vincent Street and travelled a short distance southbound.
The driver, a 36-year-old male from Barrie, surrendered a valid Ontario Driver’s licence, but was not compliant with the conditions. The driver had a previous conviction for impaired operation and in order to operate a motor vehicle is required to have an Ignition Interlock Device. The vehicle stopped did not have an Ignition Interlock Device and he was arrested for Operation while Prohibited. The motor vehicle that he was operating, which was not his, was impounded for 45 days.
The accused was later released from the scene and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on March 4, 2024.
