On Thursday, October 5, 2023, members of the Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit arrested a 21-year-old Barrie man following an online child pornography investigation.  During the arrest, a computer device was seized, and an additional search warrant will be authored for forensics.

In December of 2021, investigators received an online tip concerning the uploading of child pornography via Instagram. The investigation led to several production orders and the execution of a search warrant, where (2) computer devices were seized for forensic analysis.

Forensics were completed and the categorization resulted in the discovery of 60+ of images of child pornography.

The accused has been charged with Accessing Child Pornography, Possession of Child Pornography and Distribution of Child Pornography. He was remanded into custody and held for bail.

The Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit is a partner within Ontario’s “Provincial Strategy” to protect children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the internet. This project has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
