Barrie Police received a call at approximately 5:30 this morning reporting a sighting of a bear within a residential area in Barrie. Officers responded and kept sight of the bear while awaiting the arrival of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry

The bear was first spotted in the area of Tiffin and Innisfil Street, travelling as far as the Fairview Road and Little Avenue area. At approximately 9:40a.m., BPS and Ministry officials were able to safely deploy a tranquilizing device to allow them to approach the bear and relocate it to a more appropriate rural area.

Thank you to all residents in the area who assisted Barrie Police and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry by helping to keep sight of the bear and who kept inside their homes to allow for a successful and positive outcome.

We’re bear-y glad we were able to work with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry to safely contain and relocate the bear.
