A Senior Officer of the Barrie Police Service is facing a charge of Misconduct, contrary to Section 80(1)(a) of the Police Services Act, R.S.O. 1990, after a recent investigation that was conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Professional Standards Bureau.
An allegation of an on-duty internal incident was received by Barrie Police Chief Kimberley Greenwood late last year involving a 26-year officer of the Service who holds the rank of Inspector. After receiving the complaint, Chief Greenwood requested the assistance of the OPP to conduct the investigation.
“When an allegation against an officer is received, it is taken very seriously. When necessary, to ensure transparency and accountability within the community, a request is made for another police service to conduct investigations of this nature. The Barrie Police Service holds its members accountable while on duty and off duty and recognizes that public trust and confidence is a cornerstone of policing.” states Barrie Police Chief Kimberley Greenwood.
The member has been reassigned to alternative duties pending the outcome of the Police Services Act proceeding.
