On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 1:40 a.m., Barrie Police responded to a report of a break and enter to a convenience store located on Bayfield Street, just north of the Georgian Mall.

Upon arrival at the scene, police observed that entry to the store had been gained by forcing the door open after an attempt was made to break the glass door with a rock. Once inside, the person responsible stole some items from the store and left on foot towards Bayfield Street.

Aided by video surveillance, the investigating officer was able to provide a description of the suspect responsible and a short time later, a male fitting the description was located behind Walmart and taken into custody. At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of items that were stolen from the convenience store break and enter.

Then, at 6:23 a.m., Barrie Police was contacted with regards to a break and enter to a restaurant located across the street from the Georgian Mall. It was apparent that that break and enter had occurred at some point during the overnight hours after the drive-thru window was broken.

Again, assisted by video surveillance from the restaurant, police were able to determine that the person responsible was already in custody for the convenience store break and enter.

Police were able to determine that the restaurant had been broken into at 1:11 a.m. and it would appear that suspect responsible simply walked north on Bayfield Street until he choose his next business to break into.

As a result of the ongoing investigations that were conducted by uniform officers from the Barrie Police Service, a 38-year-old Barrie male of no fixed address has been charged with Break and Enter (2 counts) and Fail to Comply with Probation. He has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear, by video, for a bail hearing later today.
