On Sunday, May 28, 2023, shortly after 6:30 p.m., the Barrie Police Service received a call from a concerned citizen who was following a suspected impaired driver. The witness was able to provide a complete description of the involved motor vehicle which included the make, colour and licence plate details as well as a full description of the female driver. The motor vehicle was followed out of the downtown area to a residence in northeast Barrie.
Upon arrival at the residence, responding officers located the female driver and after a brief investigation, she was placed under arrest for impaired operation of a motor vehicle over .80mgs.
The 33-year-old driver, who is a resident of Barrie, was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where a qualified breathalyzer operator determined that she was operating a motor vehicle at almost three times the legal limit.
She is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on June 14, 2023, and has been charged Operation while Impaired, Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), as well as two offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
The involved motor vehicle impounded for seven days, and the accused has had her driver’s licence suspended for 90-days in accordance with the Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension program.
Barrie Police wish to thank the citizen who called in and reported their concerns about this driver to police as their efforts contributed significantly to making Barrie streets safer last night for those who use them.
