Yesterday afternoon (Thursday, May 19, 2022), at 1:20 p.m., Barrie Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Mapleview Drive West and Reid Drive.
From the investigation that followed by members of the Barrie Police Traffic Unit, it was determined that a black Jeep Wrangler was travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Mapleview Drive West when it struck a vehicle that was turning northbound onto Reid Drive. The Jeep then continued at a high rate of speed on the north side of the road where it struck two trees, passed through a parking lot and eventually struck an office building located at 204 Mapleview Drive West. Police were required to close the westbound curb lane of Mapleview Drive West until shortly after 5:00 p.m. in order to safely carry out the investigation.
The driver of the Jeep was transported to a local hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other motor vehicle involved and an occupant in that car were not injured.
This collision investigation remains under investigation and police are requesting the assistance of anyone who may have been travelling in the area and may have dash camera video to please contact Constable Langdon of the Barrie Police Traffic Unit at 705-725-7025, extension 2912 or by email at [email protected].
