Sexual Assault, Child Abuse & Victim Services
The Barrie Police Service is committed to protecting human life by thoroughly investigating incidents of violence and supporting victims along with our community partners.
If you have been a victim of a sexual assault
If you have been the victim of a sexual assault, please seek medical attention and contact police as soon as possible.
A medical examination will ensure you receive treatment for your injuries and can provide information regarding tests for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and/or pregnancy. Medical staff can also complete a Sexual Assault Evidence Kit (SAEK) to be completed if you are willing. If you agree to have a SAEK completed, you have the option to stop at any point during the exam, which would be performed by a doctor or specially trained nurse.
Reporting sexual assault
If you choose to report sexual assault, you can contact the Barrie Police Service by calling 705-725-7025, or attending the Barrie Police Service Headquarters at 29 Sperling Drive.
Please call 911 if you are in danger or require medical attention.
Child and Youth Advocacy Centre
The Barrie Police Service is proud of our partnership with the Simcoe Muskoka Child Advocacy Centre (CAC). The CAC is a place where professionals from different agencies including doctors, police, crown attorneys, child protection workers, social workers, and child and family advocates form a multi-disciplinary team to provide services to care for all the needs of a child or young person who has been abused, and their family.
The services are easily accessible, delivered in a child-friendly environment and families can access services for as long as they need them.
