On Sunday, December 10, 2023, at 6:43 p.m., a motorist was at the intersection of Little Avenue and Yonge Street with the right of way, when a group of four youths walked in front of his car forcing him to stop in order to avoid a collision. The motorist called out to the youthful pedestrians to make them aware of their ill-advised actions when one of the male’s turned and began walking towards the car.
Believing that the conversation was going to continue, the driver exited his car as the youth pulled an object from a pocket and held in a threatening manner. The driver believed that he was going to be attacked and began to move away from the youthful offender.
The 14-year-old left the area with his friends but was located at a home a short distance away where he was arrested him and transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued.
As a result of the investigation that followed, the youth has been charged with Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Carry Concealed Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon and Fail to Comply with an Undertaking. He has been held in custody and is scheduled to a bail hearing today, by video, with the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie.
