On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 3:20 p.m., the Barrie Police Service was notified of a serious motor vehicle collision that had taken place in the intersection of Mapleview Drive West and Townline Road (County Road 27).

From the investigation that followed, officers from the Barrie Police Traffic Unit have determined that a tandem style dump truck was travelling northbound on Townline Road when a passenger car made a left turn from southbound Townline Road to eastbound Mapleview Drive West. The car turned directly in front of the dump truck which lost control coming to rest in a farm field northwest of the intersection.

Both drivers were transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and the road had to be closed in the area of the crash for approximately two and half hours to allow for the investigation, clean up and safe removal of the involved motor vehicles.

A 37-year-old male from Barrie, who was driving the passenger car, has been charged with  Turn – Not in Safety, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The Barrie Police Service wish to thank those who were travelling in the area yesterday afternoon for their patience as traffic was significantly impacted by the required at scene investigation and while the necessary cleanup of debris and automotive fluids took place.
