On Monday, May 29, 2023, at 7:40 a.m., a 15-year-old male was operating his bicycle north on the east side of Duckworth Street. As he approached Steele Street, he stopped for a red light and proceeded when it turned green. At that moment, a black coloured minivan turned right from Duckworth Street and struck him. The cyclist fell to the ground and his bicycle was damaged.

A female driver, who is believed to have been in 40’s, with brown hair, wearing blue hospital scrubs and a jean jacket, got out of the minivan she was operating and spoke to the teenage cyclist. She helped him up and also helped put his chain back onto his bicycle before she drove away eastbound on Steele Street. Prior to leaving, she did mention that she was a nurse at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

Later in the day, the cyclist, who was complaining of pain in his leg was brought by family to hospital where it was determined that he had sustained a lower leg injury.

Barrie Police is reaching out to the female driver of the minivan and are asking that she immediately contact the investigating officer Constable Graber  at 705-725-7025, extension 2753, in regard to this ongoing investigation.
