Last night, at 11:13 p.m., the Barrie Police Service received a report of collision involving a motor vehicle that struck a business located on Anne Street South. A detailed description of the involved motor vehicle, the licence plate number and that it failed to remain was shared with responding officers.

Police located the motor vehicle a short distance away (on Anne Street South, near Essa Road) and made observations that the driver showed obvious signs of impairment. The driver, a 68-year-old male from Innisfil, was arrested and transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued.

A qualified breathalyzer operator later determined that the male was well over twice the legal limit at the time the breath samples were obtained.

The driver has been charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), Fail to Remain and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on April 24, 2024.

In accordance with the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension Program, the accused has had his driver’s licence suspended for 90-days and his vehicle impound for 7-days.
