On Monday, July 24, 2023, at 9:47 p.m., the Barrie Police Service received information about a motor vehicle that had been traveling northbound on Duckworth Street at a high rate, entered into a well-marked construction zone, struck a mound of dirt, became airborne and crashed into an excavation hole coming to rest upside down.

Upon arrival at the scene, police located the driver who had crawled out of the car and was being tended to by County of Simcoe Paramedic Services. The driver, who is a 29-year-old male from Aurora, Ontario, was arrested for impaired driving and was subsequently transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation that followed, the driver has been charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired over .80mgs
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon.

He was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on August 30, 2023.
