Last night, just after 10:00 p.m., the Barrie Police Service was contacted by a concerned citizen who believed that they were following an impaired driver. The citizen observed the involved motor vehicle swerve onto a lawn on Penetang Street, hit a pole and continued to a residence located in the Cundles Road East and Daphne Crescent area of Barrie.

Upon arrival at the home, Barrie Police officers located the involved motor vehicle parked in the driveway with what appeared to fresh damage to the front left corner.

The investigation that followed resulted in police requesting the driver of the involved motor vehicle to provide a sample of his breath into an Approved Screening Device as he displayed signs of impairment. The driver refused to comply with the demand and was arrested for Failure or Refusal to Comply with a Demand, Impaired Operation, Fail to Remain and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

The involved motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days and the driver, a 30-year-old male from Barrie, has had his driver’s licence suspended for 90-days in accordance with the Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension program. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on July 5, 2023, in regard to the charges laid in relation to this investigation.

The Barrie Police Service wish to thank the concerned citizen who not only called police about the actions of the driver, but also for the keen observations made with regards to the driver’s behaviour.
