On Sunday, February 26, 2023, just before 1:00 a.m., members of the Barrie Police Service observed a motor vehicle travelling westbound on Grove Street East and then northbound onto Bayfield Street in the city of Barrie. Police were alerted initially to the motor vehicle as it was being operated without its full headlighting system activated and it was eventually stopped a short distance away on Heath Street.
After a brief roadside investigation, police issued the driver, an 18-year-old male from Parry Sound, Ontario, with an approved screening device that determined his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by the consumption of alcohol.
The driver was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued, and the driver was formally charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Impaired Operation of a Conveyance over .80mgs. He was also charged with two offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice ion Barrie on April 12, 2023, to answer to the Criminal Code charges.
In accordance with the Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) program, the involved motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days and the driver’s licence of the now accused has been suspended for 90 days.
