On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, shortly after 6:00 a.m., the Barrie Police Service was made aware of a suspected impaired driver who was asleep behind the wheel in the parking lot of a Barrie View Drive restaurant.

Upon arrival at the scene, police located the involved motor vehicle that had the driver’s door open, keys in the ignition and the engine was running. The driver was awakened by police and was placed under arrest for impaired driving based upon observations made by the responding officers.

The 39-year-old driver of no fixed address was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where a Drug Recognition Evaluator determined that he was impaired by drug.

During the ongoing investigation, police determined that the accused was prohibited from driving, was using a plate not authorized for the vehicle he was found in, had a quantity of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine in his possession and was wanted on an outstanding warrant held by the Barrie Police Service.

He was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on June 14, 2023.
