Driver strikes parked car

On Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 11:40 p.m. the Barrie Police Service was advised of a motor vehicle collision where an unoccupied car parked on the road (facing westbound) was struck by another motor vehicle that had been travelling eastbound on Steel St.

Upon arrival of police, the driver, a 60-year-old male from Barrie, was spoken to and the investigating officer observed signs of impairment. The driver was arrested Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and transported to Barrie Police Headquarters for further investigation.

The driver was later interviewed by a qualified breathalyzer technician who confirmed through testing samples of breath that the driver was impaired by alcohol.

The accused has been charged with Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Operate while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus). He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on July 10, 2024.

The involved motor vehicle that the accused was operating sustained heavy damage as did the parked car that was struck, and in accordance with the Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension program, his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90-days and the car impounded for seven days.
