On Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 11:27 p.m., the Barrie Police Service received a report of a pickup truck in the ditch on Blake Street.

While enroute, police received additional information that the truck had been removed from the ditch and was now in a restaurant parking lot, striking parked cars on the north side of the street. Further information was received that a male and female, who were with the truck, appeared to be impaired.

Upon arrival at the scene, a 34-year-old male and a 24-year-old female, who are both from Barrie, were arrested for impaired driving. From the investigation that followed, police were able to determine that the male was initially driving the truck when it left the road and had care and control of it when they arrived, and the female had also been driving the truck while in the parking lot.

Both arrested persons were taken to Barrie Police Headquarters where a qualified breathalyzer technician was able to determine that the male driver was operating the pickup truck with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood and that the female was not over .80mgs

The male has been charged with Operate while Impaired and Operate while Impaired – Over 80mgs. while the female has been charged with Operate while Impaired, along with several charges under the Highway Traffic Act, Liquor Licence Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. Both accused’s have been released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on March 27, 2024.
