Little Avenue was closed this morning from Jane Crescent to Fairview Road from shortly after 8:15 a.m. until just before 11:00 a.m., while Barrie Police investigated a motor vehicle collision.

At 8:14 a.m. this morning, police were notified of a single motor vehicle collision that had just taken place at the intersection of Fairview Road and Little Avenue.  A sport utility vehicle that was travelling southbound on Fairview Road failed to negotiate a left turn onto Little Avenue when it mounted the curb, struck a retaining wall, and rolled onto its roof. A male driver fled on foot and a female passenger who also fled, was apprehended a short distance away. She was later released after speaking with investigators at the scene.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by members of the Barrie Police Service Traffic Unit and they are asking the public, who may have been in the area, to contact them if they have dash camera video of the collision or if they observed a male wearing a white hooded sweatshirt running north from the scene.

It is unknown if the male driver sustained any injuries and because of this, police are concerned for his well-being. The driver is strongly encouraged to attend Barrie Police Headquarters to bring this investigation to an appropriate and proper conclusion.

Anyone with information is asked to please contact Detective Constable Steele of the Barrie Police Service at 705-725-7025, extension 2584.
