On Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 5:34 p.m., Barrie police officers observed a motor vehicle travelling eastbound on Edgehill Dr. that was being operating with validation that had expired in late 2020.

After safely stopping the motor vehicle, police approached the car and were met with the strong odour of cannabis. As a result of the investigation that followed, police located a quantity of suspected cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine and evidence to support that these drugs, along with prescription medication, were being trafficked by the male driver and the female passenger. Both were immediately placed under arrest.

A 23-year-old male from Mississauga has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine, Possession of a Schedule IV Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Alprazolam (Xanax), Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available and Fail to Surrender Insurance Card. He was later released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on September 27, 2023.

The female passenger, who is 28-years old and from Barrie, has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine and Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine. She was later released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on September 20, 2023.
