On Sunday, November 10, 2019, at 3:21 a.m., Barrie Fire and Emergency Services and Barrie Police responded to the area of George Street in regards to a fire. Barrie Fire located a structure fire at an auto repair shop and was able to quickly contain the fire limiting the damage to the interior.
Due to the suspicious nature of the fire, Barrie Police and the Office of the Fire Marshal commenced a joint investigation. Security video located in the area captured the incident which shows a dark-coloured vehicle arrive and park a short distance away. Two suspects exit the vehicle and approach the business.
The suspects were then able to gain entry to the business and proceeded to set a fire, however upon exiting, they appear to have been caught in the flames. They can be seen running from the business with one of the suspects fully engulfed. The suspect appears to remove an item of clothing that is on fire, and both suspects return to the vehicle and drive away.
Investigators believe that the suspects most likely sustained significant and obvious injuries and would have likely required some form of medical attention.
