The Barrie Police Service has been involved in an ongoing firearms investigation over the past few days.

On Sunday, April 16, 2023, detectives from Investigative Services, who were assisted by uniform and Tactical Support Unit members and officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a search warrant at a residence located on Edgehill Dr. in the city of Barrie where evidence was seized.

Last night, police attended a residence located on Queen St. where a search warrant was also executed where additional evidence was seized. A portion of Queen St. was closed briefly allow for this phase of the investigation to be safely conducted.

The complexity of this investigation is requiring the Barrie Police Service to utilize various resources and investigative techniques in the interest of public safety and as a result, details that can be shared with the community are limited at this time.

The Barrie Police Service Major Crime Unit investigation into this isolated incident is continuing, and detectives are analyzing all the seized evidence.

Police are aware of comments being expressed by concerned community members, but want to assure the public, that their safety and the safety of those associated with this investigation remains our paramount focus.
