On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 2:59 a.m., officers from the Barrie Police Service responded to a report of two suspicious people looking in vehicles parked at Bryne Drive business. As police were responding, additional information was received that they were now carrying what appeared to be bags that contained cordless power tools and batteries.
Upon arrival at the scene, police followed footprints in the snow and located a male and female in a wooded area. These people were in possession of power tools, battery packs and after reviewing video surveillance that had been taken of them carrying out the theft, they were placed under arrest and transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued.
A 25-year-old male of no fixed address and a 40-year-old female have been jointly charged with Mischief under $5000, Theft under $5000, and Possession of Stolen Property Obtained by Crime under $5000. The male was further charged with Fail to Comply with a Release Order and the female with Disobey Court Order.
Both of the accused were held in custody and are scheduled to appear today by video, with the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
