On Monday, March 13, 2023, at 9:50 p.m., Barrie Police observed a pickup truck leaving a motel on Donald Street in the city of Barrie and as it travelled southbound onto Anne St., it was determined that the validation on the truck had expired.
The driver of the pickup turned into a nearby gas station where the officers conducted a traffic stop. As they were speaking with the driver, a strong odour of suspected marihuana was detected and what began as a Highway Traffic Act stop quickly evolved into a drug investigation.
The driver, an 18-year-old male from Barrie and a 24-year-old male passenger from Innisfil, were taken into custody and while doing so, each were found to be in possession of fully loaded firearms as well as a quantity of drugs, prescription medication and Canadian currency. The males were transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued into the overnight hours.
The arresting officers, through the course of their investigation, located and seized a significant quantity of cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, heroin and prescription medication that was destined to be trafficked on our streets. Weapons also seized, in addition to the firearms, included a set of brass knuckles.
The accused males face a combined total of 32 criminal, drug, and Provincial Offences Act charges and are scheduled to appear later today for a video bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie.
