On Thursday, April 18, 2024, shortly after 2:30 p.m., the Barrie Police Service was made aware of a break and enter that had taken place at a residence under renovation on Tiffin Street.

From the investigation that followed, police have determined that the person(s) responsible entered the home through a rear window sometime between Tuesday April 18 at 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. yesterday morning.  Once inside they made their way to an upstairs bathroom, forcibly removed a shower head, and turned on the water which caused close to a foot of water to accumulate in the basement of the home. An overwhelming smell of natural gas was also noticed throughout the home, which dissipated after the gas supply was turned off.

Damage to the home because of the flooding in considered extensive and there are no known suspects at this time.

Police are reminding the public that if they ever see a person who does not belong at or near a home or business to take note of their physical characteristics, clothing and any other noticeable details that may help to identify them and immediately call police.
