Impaired driver arrested overnight

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, shortly after 1:10 a.m., while completing a call for service, Barrie Police officers observed a motor vehicle exiting a 24-hour restaurant driveway and turn north onto Bayfield St. in the City of Barrie.

After following it a short distance, and based upon observations made by the officers, a traffic stop was initiated as the vehicle turned left onto Livingstone St. West. The male driver, who exhibited signs of impairment, was placed under arrest for impaired driving and transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued.

The 27-year-old male from Barrie was interviewed by a qualified breathalyzer operator who confirmed, through tests that were conducted, that the driver was almost three times over the legal limit.

As a result, the male was charged with Operation while Impaired and Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus). He was also charged with two Highway Traffic Act offences and Drive Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available and Drive Motor Vehicle with Unsealed Container of Liquor, contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on June 19, 2024. In accordance with the Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ALDS) Program, the driver’s motor vehicle has been impounded for 7-days and his driver’s licence suspended for 90-days.
