On Thursday November 24, 2022, at 1:12 p.m., Barrie Police responded to a report of motor vehicle collision in the parking lot of a north Bayfield St. business. Upon arrival, the involved motor vehicle and driver were located, and an investigation was commenced.
The investigating officer immediately observed signs of impairment and the 34-year-old male driver from Barrie was arrested. He was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where a qualified Drug Recognition Evaluator determined that he was impaired by drug.
Further investigation identified that the male was also in possession of a white powdery substance and as a result, he has been charged with Operation While Impaired and Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie in early December.
In addition to the criminal charges laid, the male driver’s licence has been suspended for 90-days and the motor vehicle he was operating was impounded for 7-days.
