A concerned citizen contacted the Barrie Police Service last night just after 6:30 p.m. after observing a male who they believed was asleep in a car. The car was oddly parked in a no parking zone in a plaza located at 165 Wellington Street West.

Police arrived on scene a couple of minutes later and based upon observations that were made, determined that the male was impaired by drug.

He was removed from the car he was in and was arrested for Impaired Operation and also for two counts of a Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Fentanyl and Cocaine).

The accused was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where a qualified Drug Recognition Evaluator confirmed that he was impaired by drug.

The 67-year-old male, who is of no fixed address, was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on August 9, 2023.
