Yesterday, officers from the Barrie Police Service responded to two incidents that involved suspected impaired drivers that were reported by members of the community.

The first incident occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. after a motor vehicle was located across the bottom portion of a driveway located on Farmingdale Crescent. The driver, who was not conscious when first observed by the concerned citizen, exhibited obvious signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene by police. Upon arrival at Barrie Police Headquarters, a qualified breathalyzer technician determined that the 37-year-old male driver from Barrie was nearly three times the legal limit. He was charged Operation while Impaired and Operation while Impaired –  blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). He was later released and is required to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on May 17, 2023, to answer to these charges.

These second incident was reported to police at 10:18 p.m. after a single motor vehicle that was travelling on St. Vincent Street left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch, just opposite Stonehart Lane. The driver fled on foot but was located a short distance away by responding Barrie Police officers. The driver, a 36-year-old male, also from Barrie,  was arrested and transported to Headquarters where the investigation continued. He was found to be in excess of three times the legal limit and has been charged with Operation while Impaired and Operation while Impaired –  blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). This male was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on May 3, 2023.

Both involved motor vehicles were impounded for 7-days, and the involved drivers have had her driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, in accordance with the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) program.
