On Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 2:36 a.m., Barrie Police was on patrol in the downtown area when a motor vehicle was observed committing a Highway Traffic Act offence at the intersection of Dunlop Street East and Mulcaster Street.
Once the vehicle was safely stopped, police approached it and commenced a drug related investigation based upon observations that they made. Three males in the vehicle were removed and when the car was searched, a quantity of suspected fentanyl, cocaine and Canadian currency was seized along with a fully loaded semi-automatic firearm that had a high-capacity magazine.
All three males were immediately taken into custody and transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued. Criminal charges that include possession and trafficking in fentanyl and cocaine have been jointly laid as well as a number of firearms related offences against the 21-year-old driver from Bradford and two 23-year-old passengers who are from Barrie and Bradford.
Both of the accused males from Bradford were held in custody and remanded pending a future bail hearing. The accused male from Barrie was released from custody on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on August 30, 2023.
