On Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 4:01 p.m., the Barrie Police Service was advised of a male possibly armed with a firearm after he threatened a Dunlop Street East business owner.

Officers responded to the downtown area and received information that the suspect had walked away from the store westbound on Dunlop Street East after making a number of threatening gestures.

A short time later, police located the suspect walking in the area of Maple Avenue and Ross Street, and he was taken into custody without incident. At the time of his arrest, there was no firearm, or any other weapon located on him.

The male, a 23-year-old male of no fixed address, was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where he has been formally charged with Utter Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm. He has been held for a bail hearing which is scheduled to take place today, by video, with the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie.
