On Saturday, July 27, 2019, shortly after 3:00 a.m., Barrie Police responded to a report of a stabbing on Dunlop Street West, between Bayfield Street and Maple Avenue. A 28-year-old man was found suffering from life-threatening injuries after he was stabbed with what is believed to have been an edged weapon.

Two suspects were identified by members of the Barrie Police Homicide Unit and as a result, warrants were issued for their arrest.

On September 21, 2019, a 33-year-old male from Toronto was located by the Toronto Police Service and arrested on several outstanding warrants that were held by the Barrie Police Service. He was transported to Barrie and was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Police learned that the other male involved in this incident fled from Canada after the stabbing. For almost three years, Barrie Police detectives worked diligently to track his movement through the Caribbean and South America. In November of 2021, the outstanding suspect was arrested by police in Saint Kitts and arrangements were immediately commenced for his extradition back to Canada.

Yesterday, detectives from the Barrie Police Service returned the 25-year-old accused and today, he is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie where he is facing charges of Attempt Murder and Aggravated Assault.
