On Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 7:20 p.m., officers from the Barrie Police Service responded to a report of a male armed with an edged weapon at a restaurant located on Bayfield Street.
As police arrived on scene, patrons and staff were exiting the establishment by way of a rear door. This allowed the responding officers to engage in meaningful conversation with the male and deescalate the situation. Police were then able to safely take a 39-year-old male of no fixed address, into custody, without incident.
The male was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued. As a result of this investigation, the accused has been charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Fail to Comply with a Probation Order (3 counts). He has been held in custody for a bail hearing which is scheduled to take place today, by video, with the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie.
