The Barrie Police Service Traffic Unit was on the road Wednesday as part of the ongoing enforcement initiative addressing modified and noisy vehicles.

Throughout the day, 50 charges were laid, including 29 noise-related charges.

Charges included:

  • 10 No muffler
  • 9 Unnecessary noise
  • 8 Improper muffler
  • 2 EPA catalytic converter

One driver faced multiple charges related to a modified vehicle which officers found had the exhaust routed through the front hood.

Over the coming months, Barrie Police will conduct ongoing enhanced enforcement, focusing on modified vehicles, and loud vehicles in particular. As part of this initiative, officers from Barrie Police will collaborate with officers from nearby police services to carry out inspections.

If you have concerns over noisy vehicles, please fill out our online Traffic Complaint form online at: This allows our Traffic Unit to determine the areas where noisy vehicles are occurring. The Barrie Police Service has also been working with our Citizens on Patrol (COPS) volunteers to conduct a traffic speed survey and monitor for noisy vehicles. Data collected will be used to strategically deploy our traffic enforcement resources.
