Between March 11 and April 17, 2023, the Barrie Police Service has investigated seven occurrences that have involved a person using black spray paint at various locations throughout the city of Barrie.
Targeted locations of these senseless acts of mischief include a business on Veterans Drive, new home construction sites on Mapleview Drive East, a Federal Government building on Owen Street, an elementary school on Prince William Way and sadly, two of these occurrences have involved spray paint being discharged on monuments at Military Heritage Park located on Lakeshore Drive and at the Cenotaph located at Memorial Square on Dunlop Street.
As a result of an ongoing investigation that was conducted by uniform members of the Barrie Police Service, a 43-year-old male resident of Barrie has been arrested and charged with Mischief under $5000 (five counts) and Mischief Relating to War Memorials (two Counts). The most recent arrest occurred last night after the now accused attended Barrie Police Headquarters to pick up his motor vehicle which had been seized by police as a result of the initial investigation.
The Barrie Police Service wish to thank the community for their assistance in obtaining information that greatly assisted police with these investigations. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on May 31, 2023.
