Customer Confuses Employee to Commit Fraud
February 9th, 2017 - Police & the Community

Barrie Police is currently investigating a fraud where a male entered a local McDonald's and created a scene as a form of distraction to obtain change for a bill he never handed over.

On Saturday, February 4th, 2017 at 2:40pm the male suspect entered the McDonald's located at 35 Mapleview Drive, in the City of Barrie.  He approached the cash and requested to purchase a cookie.  While the employee was collecting payment, the male caused confusion and a scene switching bills and payment methods. The manager attended to assist the employee but the male left the store with his cookie before the issue could be sorted out. Upon re-counting the til, it was evident the male left without providing payment for the cookie but also obtained the change to his $50.00 bill he originally presented to the employee.

Police are continuing their investigation at this time and wish for anyone who may have information into the identity of the male to please contact PC K Barkley of the Barrie Police Service at 705-725-7025 ext. 2609 or email at kbarkley@barriepolice.ca. Any information can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or leave an anonymous tip online at www.tipsubmit.com
