Occurrence Type: Thief Caught with Tags On
Occurrence #: BA17023677
Date: Tuesday, May 16, 2017 - 2:55pm

A Loss Prevention Officer with a keen eye caught a thief who thought no one would notice the tags still hanging from the items he had walked out of the store with.

On Tuesday, May 16th, 2017 at 2:55pm the Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) working at Cabella's noticed a male wandering around the store located at 50 Concert Way, in the City of Barrie. The male was caught putting on socks in store and slipping his feet back into his shoes.  The LPO had the male remove the socks and leave the store. As he was leaving it was observed he had Old Navy tags hanging from his shirt, pant and shoes.  At this time the LPO contacted Barrie Police Service while keeping an eye on the male as he walked towards the Park Place food court. Officers arrived and located the tags to the items not far from accused and the male wearing clothing with security tags still attached. It was confirmed by video the male entered the Old Navy, changed his clothing, stashing his old goods in a shopping bag provided by the store, before exiting without paying for the items he was wearing.

A 34-year-old Barrie male was charged with:

  • Attempted Theft Under $5000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Theft under $5000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation X4
