On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, just before 5:00 p.m., the Barrie Police Service was made aware of an incident that had just taken place in a parking lot located at 190 Minet’s Point Road.

Upon arrival at the scene, police learned that the victim had just exited a business located in the plaza and as he was walking towards his parked car, another motor vehicle that was travelling in the parking lot nearly struck him. The driver, a 24-year-old male from Barrie, immediately exited his motor vehicle, approached the victim, and for no known reason, punched him in the nose.

County of Simcoe Paramedic Services attended the scene and treated the victim, but hospitalization was not required. Police continued to investigate what was unprovoked assault and were aided by video surveillance which captured the entire incident.

Shortly after 6:00 p.m., Barrie Police located the involved motor vehicle travelling on a southeast Barrie street and stopped it. The driver was taken into custody and was charged with one count of Assault. He was later released and is scheduled to appear at the  Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on June 7, 2023.
