On Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 1:30 a.m., a fully marked Barrie Police car was travelling eastbound on Georgian Drive while responding to a priority call with its emergency equipment activated when a motor vehicle turned into it. The driver of the police vehicle sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment. The other involved car contained three occupants and one passenger was taken to hospital for a minor facial injury.
The subsequent investigation determined that the police vehicle was forced to travel into the westbound lane of Georgian Drive as the other involved motor vehicle failed to pull over to the right and come to a stop as other drivers had done. As the police vehicle continued eastbound, the other involved car turned into the path of the police vehicle causing damage to the right front corner.
The driver of the car, a 24-year-old male from Barrie was uncooperative with the investigating officers and was placed under arrest for Obstruct Police and Impaired Operation of a Conveyance.
He was later released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on August 9, 2023.
