On Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 8:01 a.m., an officer from the Barrie Police Service was involved in a collision with a pedestrian after the pedestrian exited a transit bus on Essa Rd. and Gowan St.

From the investigation that followed by the Barrie Police Traffic Unit, it was determined that a female exited the City of Barrie transit bus and ran into the path of a fully marked Barrie Police vehicle as it travelled westbound on Essa Rd.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and the intersection remained closed until just before noon-hour to allow for the investigation of this collision to safely take place.

As a result of the investigation, the pedestrian, an 18-year-old female from Barrie has been charged with Pedestrian fail to use crosswalk.
