Last night, the Barrie Police Service was notified and attended three separate incidents within the City of Barrie involving pedestrians and motor vehicles.

The first incident occurred at Mapleview Drive West and Barrieview Drive and involved a teenaged pedestrian being struck at approximately 6:20 p.m. by a pickup truck making a left turn at the intersection. The female pedestrian was attempting to cross Mapleview Drive West from the northside to the southside of the road when she was struck. She was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation remains ongoing.

The second incident occurred on Bayfield Steet, north of Livingstone Street just after 6:00 p.m., and was reported to Barrie Police just before 6:30 p.m. In this incident a 15-year-old male pedestrian was crossing Bayfield Street when he was struck by a northbound Dodge Ram that failed to remain. This pedestrian also received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was treated minor abrasions and lower body injuries. Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or has dash camera video is asked to contact the investigating officer Constable Thorne, by email, at [email protected].

The third incident, which occurred in northwest Barrie, was reported to Barrie Police at 7:35 p.m. and although it involved a motor vehicle and a person receiving an injury, it is not an incident that we, as a police service, are able to share any details on. The incident was isolated, has been thoroughly investigated and there is no risk to public safety.

The Barrie Police is reminding motorists to always make sure that intersections and crossing areas are clear of pedestrians when completing turns and pedestrians are reminded to always use crosswalks, crossovers and signalized intersections when crossing the street.
