On Monday November 8, 2021, at 11:52 p.m., officers from the Barrie Police Service, along with Barrie Fire and Emergency Services and the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Duckworth Street in the City of Barrie.

Upon arrival at the scene, first responders located a fiery collision involving a single motor that had been travelling northbound on Duckworth Street, north of Georgian Drive. The involved motor vehicle left the roadway and struck the southeast corner over the Highway 400 overpass which caused the vehicle to burst into flames. The driver, who was the lone occupant in the car, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Duckworth Street was immediately closed in both directions and remained closed until shortly after 7:15 a.m. this morning to allow the Barrie Police Traffic Unit to safely conduct the investigation.

At present, the investigation remains ongoing, and police are trying to determine why the motor vehicle involved in this crash left the roadway.
